DBD Encourages Thai Entrepreneurs to Build Online Stores and Strengthen Their Businesses for Long-Term Growth
The Department of Business Development (DBD), in collaboration with the Thai Network Information Center (THNIC) Foundation, Thai Webmaster and Online Media Association, Thailand E-Commerce Association, and Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), is leading Thai businesses into the digital world through the “Project to Promote Thai Businesses Using E-commerce”. This initiative empowers Thai entrepreneurs to establish a strong online presence with a free storefront website using the .co.th or .in.th domain name.
New DBD Registered Mark: Easier to Use, Greater Business Credibility
Mrs. Auramon Supthaweethum, director general of the Department of Business Development, announced that in April 2025, DBD would launch a new, simplified application process for obtaining the DBD Registered e-Commerce certification. This new version has been designed to enhance business credibility and create greater opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs to expand their online sales channels.
e-Commerce is a critical tool for business growth that must continuously evolve with trends. As such, DBD collaborates with key partners to build a comprehensive e-commerce ecosystem in Thailand—enhancing capabilities, expanding marketing channels, and increasing trust and reliability in e-commerce operations to help Thai businesses thrive.
.th: A Golden Opportunity for Thai Businesses to Build Credibility Online
Mrs. Pensri Arunwatanamongkol, executive director of the THNIC Foundation, emphasized that using a .th domain name increases business credibility and growth potential. She explained, “Domains like .co.th and .in.th foster trust and confidence among consumers, making it easier for customers to access goods and services while reducing the risk of online fraud,” This assurance is a key success factor for e-commerce in 2025.
Participants in the project also received special benefits. Businesses with a complete website selected by the project were featured on the “BusinessTrendTH” Facebook page. All participants were also eligible for discounted advertising packages through 13 media outlets partnered with Blish Tech. Additionally, those who earned the DBD Registered mark received a free professional email account using their domain name (e.g., @yourdomain.co.th) and access to the links.in.th URL shortening service for added security and consumer trust—alongside many other partner-provided perks.
The Heart of Online Business Is Not Just Selling—It’s Building a Strong Identity for Sustainable Growth
Ms. Maytapriya Kumnuanwoot, president of the Thai Webmaster and Online Media Association, advised that successful online businesses need a clear and sustainable strategy. It’s not just about selling products but building a solid identity for long-term growth. She highlighted the 3C framework for online success:
- Content – Create valuable and trustworthy content tailored to the target audience.
- Character – Develop a memorable and emotionally engaging brand identity.
- Conversion – Ensure every online activity is measurable and drives growth.
She added that the association supports Thai entrepreneurs in two main areas: (1) providing in-depth knowledge about website creation, branding, and online marketing; and (2) offering long-term development opportunities through free access to workshops and seminars for continuous learning.
Thailand E-Commerce Association Offers Free Business Development Benefits
Ms. Kulthirath Pakawachkrilers, president of the Thailand E-Commerce Association, noted that almost everyone now has their own e-commerce channel. The market continues to grow, now worth over a trillion baht annually. One key trend is Live Commerce, which is growing by 70–80% annually and accounts for over 30% of total e-commerce sales.
She emphasized that in addition to domestic growth, Thai entrepreneurs should consider expanding through Cross-Border e-Commerce, especially to China and other parts of Asia. This can begin with international trademark registration and building a stronger online presence through social media and websites.
To support entrepreneurs, the association is offering exclusive benefits to project participants, such as one-year free associate membership and access to normally paid seminars and workshops. The aim is to help Thai businesses grow both locally and internationally.
ETDA Supports Thai Businesses Through Secure, Transparent e-Commerce Ecosystems with Digital ID
Mr. Chaichana Mitrpant, executive director of the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), highlighted Thailand’s digital economy direction, which focuses on helping Thai businesses—especially SMEs—leverage digital technologies to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and drive sustainable growth.
A key component of this strategy is the use of a Digital ID for secure and verified digital transactions. As e-commerce expands rapidly, having systems that clearly verify both sellers and buyers is crucial to building safer, more transparent, and trustworthy online platforms. In addition to overseeing Digital ID service providers, ETDA is involved in establishing relevant legal frameworks, standards, and best practices to ensure widespread, appropriate adoption of Digital ID technology.
ETDA is also actively supporting the “Project to Promote Thai Businesses Using E-commerce”, which enables businesses to confidently connect with online customers by displaying their verified identity via Digital ID—boosting both business credibility and consumer trust. The ultimate goal is to build a strong, transparent, and sustainable e-commerce ecosystem in Thailand.
