THNIC Drives Forward a “Safe Web” Ecosystem, Joining Forces with Experts to Build a More Trustworthy Thai Digital Landscape

on September 19, 2025        by Administrator

The Thai Network Information Center Foundation (THNIC) reinforced its role as a key player in Thailand’s internet infrastructure by co-hosting the “Thailand Safe Web Forum” during the 2025 Annual General Meeting of the Thai Webmaster and Online Media Association. The event took place on 13 September 2025 at SCB Next Tech, Siam Paragon, with the aim of presenting sustainable approaches for enhancing online trust amid increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. The forum drew strong interest from digital professionals and cybersecurity experts across sectors.

This collaboration brought together THNIC, the Thai Webmaster and Online Media Association, and the Online News Producers Association to raise awareness and develop solutions to counter rising cyber risks. A central goal was to establish standards for “safe web” practices to ensure that the public can access online information with confidence.

Joining Forces to Build a ‘Safe Web’ Through Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration

As a co-organizer, THNIC worked alongside the Thai Webmaster and Online Media Association and the Online News Producers Association to host a special panel discussion under the theme, “Thailand Safe Web Forum”. The forum gathered experts from four key organizations:

  • Pensri Arunwatanamongkol, Executive Director of THNIC Foundation
  • Maytapriya Kumnuanwoot, President of the Thai Webmaster and Online Media Association
  • Nanthasit Nitmetha, President of the Online News Provider Association
  • Capt. Pakrit Krittayapong, Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD)

Together, the panelists examined the cyber-risk landscape and proposed practical solutions to improve online safety nationwide.

Dr. Pensri highlighted that modern cyberattacks such as social engineering and phishing websites driven by disinformation, pose serious threats to public trust. Strengthening the digital ecosystem, she said, must begin with reliable foundations.

.th Domains: A Mark of Trust

Dr. Pensri emphasized the crucial role of domain names, describing them as the “license plates”, or digital addresses of websites. Fraudulent sites often use domains with no identity verification, allowing scammers to create and discard websites effortlessly.

In contrast, the .th domains—especially .go.th for government entities and .co.th for businesses—require supporting documents and identity verification. “Choosing a .th domain is essentially choosing a stamp of credibility, helping users distinguish legitimate websites from fake ones,” she explained.

Dr. Pensri outlined several key mechanisms and initiatives that THNIC and its partners are implementing to foster a safer digital environment:

1. Stronger Domain Registration Policies for .th and .ไทย

Registrants must be legal entities or trademark holders in Thailand, reducing security risks and preventing misuse—unlike generic domains that can be registered anonymously.

2. Promoting .ไทย Domains for Inclusive and Secure Access

Thai-language domains lower language barriers and make it easier for the public to navigate the internet, while also being more difficult for foreign attackers to imitate.

3. dg.th Link Shortening Service for Government Agencies

Developed in collaboration with the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), this service validates the safety of every destination link, ensuring secure access to official information.

4. DNSSEC (DNS Security Extensions)

This technology attaches digital signatures to DNS queries to ensure data integrity, guaranteeing that users reach authentic websites rather than spoofed ones.

A Call for Nationwide Collaboration Toward a Sustainable Digital Future

In closing, Dr. Pensri urged all sectors—especially government agencies—to adopt .go.th as a unified standard for building national trustworthiness online. She also encouraged private organizations and the public to pay close attention to credible domain names as part of responsible digital use.

The forum underscored that achieving a truly “Safe Web” is impossible without collective effort. THNIC reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Thailand’s internet infrastructure and strengthening digital safety for the future.
