On July 9, 2025, Dr. Pensri Arunwatanamongkol, Executive Director of the Thai Network Information Center (THNIC) Foundation, was invited to the 25th CIO University Digital Forum held at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi to present the “IXP Connectivity Promotion Project for Higher Education Institutions.” This initiative aims to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure and strengthen the data interconnection capacity of the Thai education sector for greater efficiency.

On this occasion, Dr. Pensri shared the Foundation’s vision and role in supporting the project, which is designed to reinforce Thailand’s digital infrastructure and improve the stability, speed, and security of data connectivity among higher education institutions.

Under the project, THNIC provides a 50% subsidy on the Port Connection Fee for higher education institutions accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) to connect to the Internet Exchange Point (IXP). This support helps reduce data transmission costs, improve network performance, and foster research, development, and educational innovation across the country.

Moreover, IXP connectivity can serve as a backup path for connections to the UniNet (the National Research and Education Network), thereby strengthening network resilience and ensuring operational continuity for higher education institutions in the event of disruptions to the primary connection.

THNIC’s participation in this forum highlights the Foundation’s pivotal role in driving and supporting digital development in the education sector, reflecting its commitment to building a sustainable technology ecosystem that benefits higher education institutions nationwide in the long term.
