THNIC Joins Cybersecurity Conference and Seminar

On July 23, 2024, Chaya Limchitti, advisor to the Thai Network Information Center Foundation (THNIC), served as a speaker on the topic “Reducing Cyber Threats with Domain Name Systems” at the seminar “The State of Cyber Threats in Thailand: Detection and Response Strategies in the Current Situation”. Her speech covered several key points of interest, including:

  • General Knowledge about Domain Names: The importance and function of domain names in identifying and accessing various resources on the internet and the benefits of using domain names ending with .th.
  • Functioning of Domain Name Systems: The process of translating domain names into IP addresses.
  • Cyber Threats Related to Domain Names: Attacks targeting domain name systems such as look-alike domain attacks, the use of domain name systems to create cyber threats (DNS Tunneling, Domain Generation Algorithms, Fast Flux DNS), and DNS DDoS attacks.
  • Approaches to Reduce Cyber Threats with Domain Name Systems: Methods to detect and prevent domain name-related attacks such as DNSSEC (DNS Security Extensions), securing DNS server settings and using tools to monitor DNS traffic.
  • Introduction of DGA’s URL Shortening Service dg.th for Security: Recommending the use of DGA’s secure URL shortening service dg.th and promoting the use of .ไทย domain names to increase credibility and acceptance among local users.

The seminar “The State of Cyber Threats in Thailand: Detection and Response Strategies in the Current Situation”  was organized by the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) at the Centara Life Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre.
