THNIC Hosts Seminar to Share In-Depth Insights
The Thai Network Information Center (THNIC) Foundation recently hosted a special seminar to provide information on the upcoming round of applications for new generic Top-Level Domains (New gTLDs) to be launched by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). This application round is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2026.
The upcoming round of New gTLD applications marks a significant opportunity for the first time in 13 years. This will be the second round since the initial launch in 2012, which saw 1,930 applications, resulting in the approval of over 1,241 new domain names, such as .app, .online, .google, and .apple. The Top-Level Domain (TLD) system has since expanded from the original 26 TLDs such as .com, .net, and .or to a much broader and more diverse range. This evolution enables brands and organizations to secure domain names tailored specifically to their identities.

THNIC hosted a seminar on March 24, 2025, at VIE Hotel Bangkok, featuring experts from ICANN and leading organizations who shared in-depth insights into the opportunities and potential impacts on the global internet industry and business sector.
The seminar explored opportunities and strategies for brand protection in the New gTLDs era. Participants received valuable information on how to apply for their own Top-Level Domains, how organizations can prepare to establish their unique domain identities, and how to safeguard their brands to strengthen business stability.
