THNIC Academy Fosters Computational Thinking and Environmental Awareness Among Youth in Surin Province Through the “Enhancing Computational Thinking (CT) Skills with IoT and Nature Game” Program
May 2–6, 2025, the THNIC Academy, a learning center under the Thai Network Information Center Foundation, organized a training program titled “Enhancing Computational Thinking (CT) Skills with IoT and Nature Game” for high school students in Surin Province. A total of 33 students participated in the program.
Mr.Parkpoom Tripatana, Director of THNIC Academy, welcomed the participants and introduced the foundation’s mission. He emphasized the training’s primary goal: to develop students’ computational thinking skills—enabling them to analyze and solve problems systematically. The course focused on programming and its applications with Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

In the first session, students learned the basics of programming and controlling IoT devices. This session was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Thongchai Chuachan and his team from the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, Surindra Rajabhat University. The students impressively designed and programmed IoT devices to perform tasks under specific conditions.

The second session introduced students to a unique “Nature Game” designed by Teacher Chued (Mr.Khemthong Morach) from Dek Rak Pa Studio (เด็กรักป่า สตูดิโอ). This activity focused on learning through questioning, observation, self-awareness, and understanding the natural world. Students engaged with the local ecosystem through a field study at the Preethom canopy walkway in the Ban Salaengphan Community Forest. This immersive experience helped students connect environmental issues with critical thinking and holistic problem-solving skills.
In the final session, students brainstormed and presented their ideas on using IoT technology to tackle environmental challenges. Proposed solutions included: wildfire detection alerts, air quality monitoring systems, elderly care alert systems, pet tracking devices, and wastewater discharge detection systems. These projects demonstrated the students’ ability to creatively integrate digital skills with environmental awareness.
