THNIC Academy organizes training on Computational Thinking and Programming Skills for Junior High School students
Week 1, January 28 – 29, 2023
THNIC Academy organized a training program on Computational Thinking and Programming Skills specifically for junior high school students in Tak province. The training program spanned over three weeks and took place only on Saturdays and Sundays. January 28 – 29, 2023 was the first training session. Mr. Parkpoom Tripatana, the director of THNIC Academy, welcomed the participants and delivered a presentation on the details of this training course.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Akara Prayote, the head of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, Faculty of Applied Science, King Mongkut’s University of Techonolgy North Bangkok, along with a team of lecturers, imparted knowledge on the fundamentals of Computational Thinking to develop an understanding of sequential problem-solving process by breaking down complex problems into smaller parts to solve them step by step. The training also included activities to enhance analytical thinking skills, system problem-solving, and logical reasoning in problem-solving, while fostering a sense of enjoyment and excitement for further learning.

Week 2, February 4 – 5, 2023
Participants utilized the skills they had learned the previous week. They applied the sequential problem-solving process to create basic programs using tools from code.org. They began by learning about fundamental programming tools and then practiced game development and simple application design. Additionally, they explored the concept of programming without using a computer, known as “unplugged coding,” and engaged in activities involving “unplugged coding” to decode instructions.

Week 3, February 11 – 12, 2023
On February 11 – 12, 2566, the final week of the Computational Thinking and Programming Skill training course took place. The entire course spanned three weeks and comprised a total of six days. Throughout the training, participants learned how to program and develop various games such as number guessing, item categorization, and coin flip. They also practiced designing user interfaces and user experiences (UX/UI) by creating wireframes for the screens of their games.
From interviews with participants in the training, it was found that many of them had gained more knowledge in the field of computer science. They actively practiced programming and are now able to create real projects. Additionally, they have shown a keen interest in self-development and learning advanced programming techniques. Those who completed the course at THNIC Academy received a certificate as evidence of their achievements, which they can include in their portfolio.
