TAK, THAILAND – The THNIC Academy, a learning center under the Thai Network Information Center Foundation, successfully organized the “IT Rak Pah (IT for Forest Conservation)training program from March 11–15, 2026. The initiative aimed to promote the use of technology in conserving natural resources and the environment. A total of 27 high school students from Tak, Phrae, and Kamphaeng Phet provinces participated. The program also extended its reach to the local community, inviting youth from Ban Wang Muang in Mai Ngam subdistrict, Mueang Tak district, and the general public interested in forest management to participate in specialized forestry management sessions.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Mr. Parkpoom Tripatana, Director of THNIC Academy. He introduced the foundation’s role and outlined the course objectives. The training focused on enhancing Computational Thinking skills to strengthen participants’ analytical and systematic problem-solving abilities. This was achieved through learning programming and applying Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, skills to be applied toward sustainable environmental management.

During the training, participants learned basic programming to control IoT devices under the guidance by Asst. Prof. Dr. Thongchai Chuachan and his team from the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, Surindra Rajabhat University. They also took part in “Nature Games,” designed by Khru Chued (Mr. Khemthong Morach) from Dek Rak Pa Studio (เด็กรักป่า สตูดิโอ), which emphasized inquiry-based learning and observation to foster a deeper understanding of the relationship between humans and nature.

Participants further gained hands-on experience through field studies in the community forest at Wat Wang Muang and the forest garden at Ban Rai Mai Ngam (บ้านไร่ไม้งาม). They explored the biodiversity of the forest garden, which is home to over 10,000 plant species, including many rare varieties. The sessions also introduced practical uses of trees such as eco-printing, fabric printing using natural dyes, as well as basic knowledge of plant properties. Officials from the Taksin Maharat National Park also provided insights into the importance of the forest, natural resources, and ecosystem balance.

A key highlight of the program focused on Carbon Footprints and Carbon Credits in the forestry sector. Experts from the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), Tak branch, led a practical field exercise where they practiced measuring trees and calculating carbon credits, gaining practical, science-based environmental knowledge.

In the final session, participants participated in a brainstorming showcase, presenting tech-driven solutions for real-world issues such as dredging the Ping River, urban planning, and drug-related issues. Presentations demonstrated a successful integration of technical knowledge with creative critical thinking, reflecting the program’s mission to cultivate a new generation of environmentally-conscious innovators.
