THNIC Advances DNSSEC Adoption to Strengthen Thailand’s Internet Resilience at Cybersec Asia 2026
On February 5, 2026), Dr. Pensri Arunwatanamongkol, Executive Director of the Thai Network Information Center Foundation (THNIC, participated in delivering knowledge under spoke on the topic “The Great DNSSEC Push: Redefining Thailand’s Internet Resilience” at Cybersec Asia 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, to promote the enhancement Thailand’s domain name system security.
Data from the Internet Resilience Index indicates that Thailand has an overall score of 65/100, higher than the global average, and has infrastructure strength ranked 3rd in Southeast Asia. However, there are still important security gaps, especially in DNSSEC validation, which has a score of only 7/100 and a usage rate of 22.51%, lower than the global average, including neighboring countries such as the Philippines and Malaysia.
Dr. Pensri pointed out that these gaps make Thailand’s DNS infrastructure still vulnerable to attacks in the form of DNS Hijacking and DNS Spoofing, which may mislead users to fake websites to steal important information without their knowledge. She emphasized the urgent mission of the country is not the creation of new technology, but the promotion of DNSSEC to become a “minimum necessary standard” of Thailand’s Internet system to sustainably close structural vulnerabilities.
Under the “The Great DNSSEC Push” plan, THNIC has set a two-phase implementation strategy:
- To encourage Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to enable DNSSEC Validation as a default to block false data at the source
- To promote Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) organizations and government agencies to digitally sign their own domains, so Signed Domain and Validation mechanisms work together across the system
Although the DNSSEC validation adoption rate on the side of Internet Service Providers is still not high, statistics as of December 31, 2025 show that digitally assigned .th domains increased to 4,599 domains from 971 domains in 2024, reflecting the awareness of Thai organizations in strengthening the credibility of their websites.
The highest goal of this initiative is to establish a Trusted DNS Infrastructure to reduce the risk of being redirected to fake websites, reduce economic damage, and increase confidence in Thailand’s Internet system in the long term.
