THNIC Showcases “.ไทย” Domain on BorntoDev Live, Encouraging Thais to Build Their Online Identity

On June 20, 2025, Mr. Anawin Pongsaboripat, assistant director of the Thai Network Information Center Foundation (THNIC), joined a live session on the BorntoDev Facebook page to share new perspectives on domain names and the use of the Thai-language domain “.ไทย” as a way to strengthen online identity and credibility.

During the live session, Mr. Anawin explained the basics of the Domain Name System (DNS), which works like a “map of the internet,” allowing users to access websites through easy-to-remember names instead of complex IP numbers. He also highlighted the origins of the “.ไทย” domain, which began when THNIC joined an international project under ICANN. THNIC was officially delegated to manage the “.ไทย” domain in 2010, with registration opening in 2011. Today, more than 30,000 users have adopted it.

He emphasized the advantages of using “.ไทย,” such as easy recognition, clear communication with Thai audiences, and verified registrant information, which helps reduce risks from fraudulent websites. One notable example is กาแฟเมืองปาน.ไทย, (kafae muang boran.Thai) a local business that uses a Thai domain to promote community-based agricultural products.

The session also touched on the future of Thai-language email addresses, such as “@คน.ไทย,” (@khon.Thai) and the importance of encouraging both government agencies and private organizations to adopt the “.ไทย” domain to better reach the public. THNIC’s additional services were also introduced, including link shortening via “ลิงก์.ไทย” and customizable Thai-language mail servers.
